Review:

Story: The story revolves around Arjun Bhagwat (Emraan Hashmi), who plays a former cop. After his stint as a cop, he earns his living by doing odd jobs for the pimps and gangsters of Goa. Priya (Jacqueline Fernandez), is a model, who's in love with Arjun. The movie shifts gears once Arjun meets a Goan pimp, who gives him an assignment to trace several prostitutes, who have almost vanished in thin air. Tracing a common number, Arjun weaves a plan to trap the serial killer Dheeraj, played with amazing poise by Prashant Narayan.

Story treatment: Although, the Bhatts failed to click with the sequel of their movie 'Raaz,' 'Murder 2' is one flick that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The script has been penned to keep alive the soul of 'Murder,' allowing the antagonist steal the limelight. There are a few uncomfortable moments in the movie for those, who can’t withstand more-than-desired violence and intimacy. However, the writer needs to be given accolades for justifying a dark thriller with no characters without shades of grey.

Star Cast: 'Murder 2' is an antagonist’s stage. With Prashant playing a nerve-wracking serial killer, he shoulders the movie with his unmatched performance, overshadowing the efforts of Emraan and others. Emraan, with a few additions of liplocks and steamy scenes, keeps alive his 'serial kisser' image. Jacqueline has been a good pick, for she's successful in adding the oomph factor- that she was casted for. Sulagna Panigrahi, a student, who is forced to become a 'lady of pleasure' to support her family, is refreshing.

Direction: Mohit Suri is different from Anurag Basu in several means. His style of narration gives you shades of his previous attempts with the Bhatt camp. While he succeeds in the herculean task of breaking the silver –thread that sequels usually suffer from, he still needs to improve on the art of capturing steamy scenes with poise. One reason for giving Suri a thumbs-up would be that he keeps the audience in dark albeit and the villain is never hidden.

Dialogues / Cinematography / Music: One of the prime strengths of the movie is the way camera has been handled. The dark and hooker-filled streets of Goa are captured with creative caution, and at the same time, the climax is nail-biting. Music is strictly okay as it will not last in the charts for long as compared with 'Murder'. Breaking the unshared belief that Emraan’s movie ought to have great music, apart from 'Haale Dil' and 'Phir Mohobbat,' there are fewer chances for any other number to be on the charts. On the whole, the music is a mixed bag of disappointment and average numbers.

3 Ups and 3 Downs: The reasons to watch the movie would be performance, script and steam (strictly in the order). As mentioned, it’s a villain’s script, where the bad guy rules the screen every time he makes an appearance. Apart from Prashant, others fall flat and fail to make an impact, which might disappoint the thriller lovers. The movie has a gripping storyline, but definitely not for family viewing. It entertains in the two hour package it offers. If Emraan plus Jacqueline under the name 'Murder 2' don't arise your interest enough, then the story will surely do the trick.
